Upcoming library events

Mark you calendar! Movie Monday will debut on September 10th at 5:30 in the Center for Global Studies. We will be showing Stand and Deliver with popcorn provided by the SGA. We chose this film because it is Hispanic Heritage month and because it deals with education.  If you haven't seen this movie you owe it to yourself to come and see it.  It is outstanding and netted Edward James Olmos and Oscar nomination.

Then on September 18th and 19th we will be having our first meetings for Booked for Lunch! Come find out what it is all about. We hope to see you there!

Sometimes the old fashioned way is the best

At least when it comes to taking notes that is! This article from NPR discusses the findings of a study that demonstrates the very slowness of writing things by hand helps you to remember and process what you are learning.  You can read it here at Attention Students: Put Your Laptops Away  Ultimately, what it boils down to is this: when typing students try to take down everything word for word, whereas when you write your notes you have to be selective and actively listen to what the instructor is saying.  So crack open those notebooks and pens, ladies and gentlemen, if you want to get better grades.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone! We hope you had a fantastic summer and are ready for the start of this new semester.  We have a number of things to share with you, the first of which is that we have new hours.  Beginning today the Jim and Patsy Rose Library will be closing at 8pm Monday through Thursday instead of 9.

Next week is the Week of Welcome and are day is Tuesday the 21st.  Stop by the library to learn more about our services and our upcoming events and to get a prize.

Speaking of upcoming events we will kick off two new programs this September.  The first is Booked for Lunch, which has been mentioned on the blog previously.  Our first meetings will be the 18th and 19th at 12:30.  You do not have to attend both days.  Our second, and newer event is Movie Mondays.  Each month we will be screening a film on a Monday evening.  Our first film is Stand and Deliver and it will be on September 10th at 5:30pm.
